What makes trends in design so enjoyable to follow is that they are always changing, and while it can be hard to keep up with the latest trends, let alone remodel every time a new one comes up (could you imagine!) The real joy is found by taking a look at all the latest and greatest design ideas that have got a buzz going around them and reimagining what your kitchen can be.
So put down that old kitchen design magazine and read on for some of the eye catching top kitchen trends so far in 2022.
You know the saying - everything and the kitchen sink. But why does everything come before the sink, especially the faucet?
The faucet has always been a focal point in kitchens, and it’s often one of the first things people look to upgrade. But not anymore! In 2022, it's all about the sink.
Metals such as copper, bronze, silver, and gold are very trendy in 2022. Both stone and marble sinks are in as well.
Finally, the workstation sink is something new that is becoming very popular. These can take on a variety of designs that help make your life easier. With inserts and the ability to slide in and out cutting boards, drain racks, & strainers.
Today’s bottom freezer refrigerator has a freezer drawer that makes it easier to organize and access your frozen items so you can have the best of both worlds.
The trend of the marble backsplash is making way for that of the hand-glazed tile. A hand-glazed tiled backsplash gives a slightly uneven look that softens the kitchen - opposed to the sharp definition of the marble backsplash.
Some popular variations include subway tiles that are hand-glazed with various shades of dark blue, green, or grey. You can imagine how they would pair well with some of the sink ideas mentioned above to create a very trendy rustic yet modern farmhouse style.
Before moving on from the backsplash, we have to give mention to the polished glass tile backsplash. Polished glass tiles are trending, and for good reason, they give a clean, elegant, and very pristine look to your kitchen.
Walk into some modern kitchens, and you won’t find a handle on a single thing. Not on the upper cabinets, not on the drawers, not on the dishwashers, or on the ovens. No handles or discreet handles on kitchen cabinets, drawers, and appliances in the kitchen are a huge trend right now and might be here to stay.
Now, if you're imagining a sleek modern kitchen space is the only kind that can pull that off you’re not alone. But there are a lot of other kitchen styles that can take advantage of this new trend. Even going off of some of what we talked over so far, you can have a kitchen with a black ceramic tile backsplash, soapstone sink, and beautiful smooth wooden drawers under it - with no handles at all.
A large kitchen island with plenty of room for seating is a big trend for 2022. Imagine a large kitchen island with a marble kitchen countertop. On one side there is a countertop with a bump out, allowing your guests to sit and drink and can chat with each other as well as you. You may be on the other side on one corner where you have your cook-top and cutting board allowing you to cook and converse with the guests and creating a very communal feel.
Going off the above example with the kitchen island; a classic combination is a cooktop on the island and then a single wall oven or double wall oven to complement it. The cooktop and wall oven combination is a big trend in 2022, partly for the functionality that it provides to the kitchen. It can make things easier and also encourage collaboration allowing one person to check what's cooking in the oven, while someone else is over cooking or cutting on the island.
Even in a modern kitchen, a touch of reclaimed wood can offer some warmth and soften the look of the kitchen. Wooden shelves, a wooden countertop, or even wooden beams along the ceiling in an otherwise non-wood kitchen can offer a very unique and also very trendy look to your kitchen.
The overall theme trending in 2022 is soft colors and a kitchen that blends functionality with inviting warmth.
